How to play

Take an empty field and turn it into the next big Theme Park!

Select the Tools to access the build menu. Start by placing paths, shops and your first ride. Watch out for the cost of the buildings to be sure to not run out of money. Guests will be attracted to your park over time and spend money at each of your rides and shops. Be sure to keep them happy by providing them with rides, food and toilets.

As you save more money, better rides become available for you to build. Try to build them all and keep track of your park records.

Tips:

  • Happy guests will attract more visitors.
  • Guests will lose happiness if they are hungry or need the toilet, so be sure to spread these around your park.

Background

My second completed project for the Pico 8!

This started as a test for myself to build an efficient pathfinding algorithm for use in Pico 8. The test started with just paths and up to 2500 guests walking to different parts of a maze.

This is the first time I had struggled with the token limit and towards the end I was really squeezing extra space out of my code to finish the project, and more squeezing can be done still I am sure!

I had a lot of fun building this project, and although it is not very long, I hope you can have fun playing it too!

Changes for v1.01

  • Fixed the demolish tool, should now work as expected.
  • Improved logic checks for placing buildings.
  • Improved visitor logic for choosing next destination.

The Bad Guys Have A Visit To Canada's Wonderland! OH MY!! 😁

Cute game, it's of course simple due to Pico-8's limitations but it's still fun to place rides down and watch them. I think it would be nice if there were also more ways to customize the scenery by being able to place down trees and decorations, or even being able to terraform the landscape by adding water or replacing the grass with sand etc. Already enjoyed it as it is though, keep up the good work!

I am best theme park builder

The best theme park I have built so far that has 98 happiness, quickly maxes the money, and has so many visitors that it slowed down the game is a theme park where I built nothing. No paths no buildings no restrooms.

Nvm just add a roller coaster that no body has access to

Hey! I Was Thinking About Amusement Parks Today! I Felt Like This Like This Video Here At Timeline Scene "0:10"

Lots of WCs are important, I guessed and wisely it would seem at first. I quickly maxed out at $32000, suspiciously close to PICO-8's signed 16bit number maximum, but then the visitor numbers started falling. Next time more WCs... At least my park isn't as bad as my GF's.

This is fun :)

Loved It! Reminds me of RCT2!!

While I do wish there was more to this, the simplicity and relaxed nature of it is very much appreciated. I started by slapping down a burger stand, went to water my cactus, and came back to having $10,000! So from there I could freely build. I think scenery items like trees and statues, terrain features like water and flowers, and being able to buy more land to expand the park outward would be awesome! Eventually you'd end up with a pixel art park of your own creation. These features could all just be visual too and I'd welcome them. I look forward to seeing more great things from you, 5/5!

Hey, thanks for the nice comment it is really appreciated.

I wanted to do all of the above and more, but unfortunately Pico 8 has harsh limitations with file size. I am going through and refactoring my code so I can squeeze more in. I would like the ability to just place flowers down, like in the opening scene.

I will be moving on from Pico soon, so might come back to this and see how it can be expanded.

Many thanks again!

Wow, that does sound great! I look forward to seeing what you do from here on out, I'm a fan so far.

Incredible game. So well done. It brings me back to my youth playing RollerCoaster Tycoon. Hats off, happy to purchase and reward this. Can't wait to study the code and see what you do next!

That really means a lot to me thank you very much!

If I ever make it big you'll be in every credit.

Thank you very much for the kind works :)

Love it.  Charming and well-presented.

Thank you !

Lotta fun, I miss those old tycoon games you could buy for your computer and this brought me back

I remember being about 4 and playing the original Theme Park game on our PC. I had no Idea what was going on and would lose to an "Arm wrestle". I have since gone back and realised I was probably just getting into a ton of debt (:

Fun game! FYI I had a few issues with demolishing rides and them still sticking around. Also had the ability to build on top of them and would make it a weird stacked ride graphical glitch.

Ah! I thought I had ironed those out.. thanks for letting me know I will try to fix ASAP.

Thank you for the comment, I really appreciate it :)

Very cool little project! Some elements could be clearer, like the requirements for building some items, but its very nice aas it is!

Thanks for the comment, really appreciated! I know what you mean, The logic in the code means that a building can only be placed if a path exists below the whole ride. I think this should be updated or at least made more clear.

Thanks again!
